occupied by the upper Brahmaputra and its tributaries;
the Rukyok Tsangpo and Kyibuk Tsangpo. Tents.

Zhongpa to Payang
(4750m), drive 121 kms, from Zhongpa the main road continues
to follow the Brahmaputra valley upstream and after
71 kms, it crosses the Soge La pass (4725m). After 23
kms is Payang. Tents.
DAY 6
From Payang, trace
the course of the Mayum Tsangpo feeder river towards
the Mayum La pass (4700m) and then to reach Lake Manasarovar
camp.
DAY 7
Morning free at
the Lake and drive to Great Prayer Flagpole Darchen
(4600m), overnight at Darchen Hotel.

to Kharta (3750m) for 4 hrs and camp at Kharta.

Trekking from Kharta
to Yueba. Camp.

Trekking from Yueba
to Shao La (5030m) and Sharo for 6 hrs.

Trekking from Sharo
to Sharlong cave, walk 4 hrs and cross two ridges and
reach a wooded valley. The path then follows a beautifull
crest that descends to a side valley (4000m) with dense
forests of juniper. Camp.
DAY 8
Trekking from Sharlong
to Pethang, 5-6 hrs walk, turn left along a ridge that
overlooks the river valley, which extends to Chokla
(4962m).
DAY 9
Trekking from Pethang
to Pethang Ringmo (Kangshung Face Base Camp), go west
up the Karma Valley by following the river's left bank.
In 1 hr to round bend called Orga to view Mt. Everest
properly for the first time, on the left, a few kms
away is Chomo Lhontso (7815m), and behind is the multi-peaked
Makalu (8463m). Reach Kangshung Face Base Camp (5000m)
in 3 hrs. This large and grassy area with a stunning
view of Mt. Everest (8848m) and Lhotse (8516m) to the
south is known as Pethang Ringmo. Camp.
DAY 10
Trekking to Kangshung,
to walk further along the glacier 5950 meters high,
and back to Pethang Ringmo.
DAY 11
Trekking from Pethang
Ringmo to Pethang to walk around for 4 hrs.
DAY 12
Trekking from Pethang
to Base of Langma La (5350m), to walk 2-3 hrs and there
are wonderful views of Mt. Makalu (8463).
DAY 13
Cross Langma La
(5350m).
DAY 14
Trekking back to
Kharta.
DAY 15
From Kharta to Rongbuk
( 4980m), camp.
DAY 16
Trekking to Everest
Base Camp (5150m) and back to Rongbuk.

Arrival
at Gongkar airport (355m). There was once a fort here
Gongkar Dzong, but it now lies in ruins. Around 10 kms
back on the road to Lhasa is the fort and Gongkar Chode
Sakyapa Monastery. Drive 1 1/2 hr to Lhasa (3700m),
96 kms. Overnight at Lhasa Mandala or Snow-land Hotel.
DAY 2
Visit of Potala
Palace, Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery, Norpulingka,
Jokhang Temple & Barkhor Market.
DAY 3
Drive from Lhasa
for 6 hrs, 260 kms, to Gyantse via Kampa La pass (4794
m) and Lake Yamdrok (4488m),. Visit Gyantse Kumbum and
Pelkor Chode Monastery. Overnight at Gyantse Utse Hotel.
DAY 4
Gyantse (3950 m)
to Shigatse (3900 m), drive 2 hrs, 90 kms. Visit Shigatse
Tashi Lhunpo Monastery. Overnight at Shigatse Hotel.
DAY 5
By southern route
drive 394 kms and it takes 9 hrs from Shigatse to Sangsang.
The scenery includes Mt. Kailash, with its vast sweeping
plains, sand dunes and the Himalaya range in the distance.

DAY 6
From Sangsang, the
road passes through a succession of valleys and follows
a gorge into the spectacular wide ravine of the Raka
Tsangpo, to passe Saga town (4600m), 170 kms. Saga is
the last town on the southern route, drive 145 kms and
it takes 9 1/2 hrs to Zhongpa camp.
Payang to Lake Manasarovar
(4588m), drive 10 hrs, 275 kms. Tents.
DAY 9
Whole day at Lake
Manasarovar. The sacred Lake Manasarovar is located
in West Tibet between Mt. Kailash (6714m) and the Gurla
Mandhata Range (Memo Nani - 7694m).
DAY 10
Drive from Lake
to Darchen, overnight at Darchen Hotel.
MT. KAILASH KORA (6714m), 53 kms for the entire trek.
The 53km Kailash circuit is the holiest
of all Tibet's pilgrimages and the beacon which draws
most travellers to Western Tibet. The Kora is a three
day circumambulation of the holy mountain, crossing
the 5630m Drolma La en route and taking in various
sites of religious significance along the way. The
festival of Saga Dawa on the full moon of the fouth
Tibetan month (June 16th) is an excellent time to
be at Kailash as the place is packed with Tibetan
pilgrims from across the country.
